What we are about
We are a non-profit organization based in the Sacramento region whose goal is to help Catholics discover who they were made to be in Christ. We do this through various interactions, beginning with the Become Who You Are program. From there you are welcome to take advantage of any of the services SDFC provides. If you have never had healing prayer there are two types of specifically Catholic prayer providers we would recommend; Encounter Ministry and Unbound. Check them out under our resources section below. We highly recommend learning about and discerning your charisms (spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit) by taking the Called & Gifted courses. Spiritual mentoring is offered as we are able. Spiritual Mentors provide a relationship to assist another’s spiritual development. Our Catholic Life Coaches can help those who want assistance in clarifying their aspirations, identifying obstacles, and creating customized strategies to achieve their desired outcomes. Lastly, for those seeking out a place to heal from emotional wounds we offer Catholic psychotherapy with Catholic therapists through the Catholic Counseling Agency.
What is SDFC
Our team at Self Discovery for Catholics is a group of committed Catholics who are in love with our faith and who have a great desire to cooperate with God’s grace to become the saints God has created us to be! We believe that since God created us to become saints that, by His grace, it is possible to become one! We believe that the saints are people who knew who God created them to be and by God’s grace humbly and authentically moved in that knowledge and His will for their lives. others come to a fuller knowledge of who God created them. Inspired by our mission, to help others come to know more fully who God created them so they can more readily and intentionally become who they are, we provide services and programs that we have found helpful in our own life journeys and were life changing in helping us know more about who God created us to be. AND we want everyone else to know about these programs and be able to take part in them so they can come to know more fully who God created them to be.
Our Services
Become Who You Are Program
Online or in-person, this is designated for individuals who want to come to know more concretely who God created them to be. Typically, this is an 8 week class, meeting once a week for two hours. BWYA is occasionally offered in a three day intensive retreat format.

Spiritual Mentoring
Online, spiritual mentoring will help you focus on your spiritual life and grow in your relationship with Christ. Our Catholic formed mentors offer spiritual accompaniment in your spiritual journey. In this accompaniment one finds a sense of direction, one of not only self-discovery but also a sense of discovering one’s unique path. Typically, mentors meet with mentees once a month for 60 minutes.

Called and Gifted
Online classes that teach you about charisms, what they are and how to discern your own spiritual gift/charisms. Called and Gifted is a Catholic spiritual gifts discernment program designed specifically to help you learn about and identify charisms so that as you see where you are gifted you may also recognize where it is that God calls you to serve. This is a two part series of classes. The Introduction is a 5 week class, meeting for 2 hours per week and then is followed by and active discernment class, a **********week class meeting for 2 hours per week.

Catholic Life Coaching
Catholic Counseling
For residents of California only, online or in-person, this is designated for individuals to process and explore their thoughts and feelings with a therapist who is Catholic. Typically, meetings are weekly or bi-weekly and are offered through the Catholic Counseling Agency.

Online or in-person, this session will help you with what you care most about and develop a plan to achieve personal and professional goals. Those who want assistance in clarifying their aspirations, identifying obstacles, and creating customized strategies to achieve their desired outcomes are welcome to do that with their own personal life coach working through the lens of the Catholic faith.

Encounter
Encounter is a Catholic prayer ministry where people have been trained in healing prayer. If you would like to receive healing prayer for either physical or emotional healing this link will bring you to a website that you can sign up for one free session of healing prayer with Encounter trained prayer ministers.
Unbound
Unbound is a prayer ministry that helps people receive the freedom that is theirs through Christ’s death resurrection. If you are interested in receiving Unbound prayer and are an active parishioner of the Sacramento Diocese you can sign up for a free session on the Diocesan website: Unbound | Diocese of Sacramento (scd.org)
